The Costera Norte will permanently regain its third traffic lane through two works advancing in parallel. On 28 September 2026, Murcia City Council began works to fit out the third outer lane on the Cabezo de Torres stretch, between Vereda de Fortuna and Avenida Alto Atalayas —the district's access point from the northeast— over roughly 1.1 km. The project, budgeted at €129,792.89 with a three-month timeline, includes removing temporary barriers, renewing horizontal signage and installing new protection for vehicles and cyclists; it will also complete the roundabout at the junction with Calle Progreso, opening the pending lane there to traffic.

At the other end of the Costera Norte, in the Los Rectores area, the dismantling of the high-voltage towers and overhead lines that for years narrowed the road has now been completed, restoring the road's full width and giving continuity to the third lane there for the first time since the Costera Norte was built.

Murcia's mayor, Rebeca Pérez, visited the start of the works in Cabezo de Torres and said the goal is for existing infrastructure to "work at full capacity" so residents can move around the municipality "more comfortably and smoothly".

How does this relate to Sector ZP-Pn5?

The Costera Norte improves Sector ZP-Pn5's connections from both its ends: to the east, towards Cabezo de Torres, where the third lane is being recovered; and to the west, towards Los Rectores, where removing the old power-line towers has already freed up the road's full width. Consolidating this route along its whole length reinforces accessibility around the Sector from both directions, for everyday traffic as well as for its planned tertiary, logistics and retail uses.
